Just Blues (The Story So Far - continued)
October 2002.
Since April we have had some stonkin gigs.
Sandy is settling in well and proving to be a great asset to the band. We have
had a few outside gigs including the Jubilee weekend at Felixstowe which went
well.
When we find time we rehearse at Legend
Studio’s in Colchester. This works well as it is a central point for us all to
meet and quite user friendly. We have lost the old familiar Mazda
Panel van in a fire. At the moment we are relying on Peter Wolfe’s other van
but I think we will shortly be looking for a replacement.
We have made the yearly pilgrimage to
Colne in Lancashire for the “Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival” on the August
bank holiday weekend thanks to Malcolm. Our spot this year was early Saturday
evening at the conservative club. A great little venue to play but loading and
unloading through the gents bog is a bit tight but keeps you on the move. Our
shortened set was well received and seemed to fly by far too quickly. A quick
hello to Hubert and Mavis who kindly looked after us at their bed and breakfast
establishment. We can recommend their hospitality.
Robyn has taken to using his Fender
Twin in favour of the Harp Master and it’s sounding very good. I’ve had itchy
fingers and changed the Santana for a Sunburst Telecaster and the Marshall 800
and cabinet in favour of a Fender Twin. (Nearly as heavy as the ball breaker).
Perhaps I’m settled at last. Thanks to Sandy’s contacts we have some
new venues to gig at including, The Swan, Needham Market. The Owl and Pussycat,
Felixstowe (or as Sandy calls it, The Hoot and Muff) and The Ordnance Hotel,
Felixstowe and the Highbury Barn, Sudbury to name a few.
A new venue to us which we played
recently is The Retreat, in Bocking. My home village strangely enough. A really
nice gig to play. A bit snug but the place has a good atmosphere. We return
there on the 14th December and are hoping for a good night.
This Friday night the 11th
Oct. we have a new venue to try. New to us it’s Blues on the Boat, Town Bridge,
Peterborough. A new experience playing on the water. Hope we don’t fall in.
Due to the fire, which the old van was
caught in, Peter W has had a change in occupation. He has recently opened a new
Pine Shop along side the Farm Shop and we wish him well in his new venture. Bye for now. Peter R. (To Sandy I say “I’ll nod. He will understand). Continued on The Story - 3
